Little Things

Plain and simple...it's the little things that get you through the day.

Whoop Whoop Friday

TGIF! So Glad it's Friday, and what a great one it is!
Random girl...but gets my excitement across well

3 Things I am LOVING about this Friday:
  1. Dillon and I are headed to VT for the weekend with the gang...minus Rachie. We'll get to tailgate with everyone (including Tuts!), see Kelsey do her fabo routine before the game...she's a superstar, and get to pretend I am a true Hokie fan for a day.
  2. The weather...there is a cold front coming in...and normally I am sad to see warm weather go...but I am hoping that along with the cooler weather & ariel spraying it will help tame those nasty mosquitoes. They are getting out of control...and now they are huge-the size of a fly! Not to mention cold weather and football go together like peas and carrots!
  3. My leftovers from our dinner last night! Thanks to BPope (http://lotsofthingsbyb.blogspot.com/) I made a yummy chicken carbonera...one thing I did different was add a touch of honey. It made the sauce just a tad sweet. AMAZING
One thing I am not loving is having to leave Dez this wkend...but at least she'll have lots of friends this weekend. This is what she looked like when I broke this news to her...
She was totally shocked by the news-sad pup...she won't even miss us

Hope you have a great weekend!!!! Doing anything fun or special??? Please share!

Now on to Chicago-the Windy City

This past Thursday I left Vegas to finally get to where I have been waiting to go for months...years really...Chicago! They call it the Windy City...but I call it the Rainy City after this weekend. Luckily whenever we would walk out the door to go shopping or sight seeing it would hold off...thanks weather!

Thursday I met up with Rachel at the airport and we took the train into the city to get to our friend Jennifer's apartment. Friday we woke up, ate breakfast, and got started on a great shopping day! We also stopped by the John Hancock building and had a few drinks and appetizers in the Signature Room on the 96th floor.
Here are the views you get once you zoom to the top of the elevator
...and after you feel like your head is about to explode from the pressure

Friday night we had a great Sushi dinner at Nori. Complete with 4 bottles of wine...one for each of us!
Our gracious hosts, Donna and Jennifer
A bottle of wine deep, and full of delish sushi!

After dinner we all went out to some of Donna & Jenny's favorite bars. Saturday morning Rachel and I woke up and set out for lunch at a hole in the wall Deli-yum!, and a day of sight seeing...and more shopping.

We went to visit the Buckingham Fountain, Crown Fountain, The Bean/Millennium Park, and The Chicago Theatre.

The Crown Fountain in Millennium Park

Saturday evening we all got ready and head out for another night on the town. Sunday morning we had breakfast at Melrose Diner, then saw Rachel off on the train for her to catch her flight. I stayed behind because I didn't leave until Monday! After Rachel rode away in her train, Jenny and I decided to have one last shopping trip...dangerous! That night we decided to have a relaxing night in sweatpants with fro-yo and Bridesmaids, the movie. First thing Monday morning I began my 13 hour trip home...on trains, planes, and cars.

Glad to be back and not having to live out of my suitcase, but miss the bright lights, big city, and friends! Can't wait for our next trip!

Vegas trip-business or pleasure?

Like I said, in my previous post I just got back from a long week of traveling. Last Sunday I left for Vegas for a buying trip with Kitty Hawk Kites. I've never been before so it was an awesome way to see Vegas fo free!

Dezzie and D were very sad to see me go...here she is screaming at me

We stayed at The Cosmopolitan, which was recently built. I has an awesome luxurious glamor feel along with modern sleek lines and feminine touches. Just awesome!
This is a view of the hotel from the other side of the Bellagio

You wouldn't believe how expensive everything is there though...I guess that comes with all big cities/tourist towns. For example, we ate at Henry's in the hotel for breakfast and for four people it cost $90!!!

On another note-I just can't get over how nice/jaw dropping my room (click the link to see my room-photo gallery on the right) was...the pictures just don't give it justice. I thought I was going to have a little room with a bed and bathroom. When I slid my card in the door and walked in I couldn't believe it. I had lucked out and gotten a 700 sq foot room with a living room, desk with TV above it, huge vanity/shower/jacuzzi/dressing area/closet, and bedroom with a King bed and 52" TV on the wall...and the pièce de résistance was the huge balcony that overlooked the LV Strip.
 View from the front door
(living room to the right, kitchenette to the left, bathroom across from closet)

Morning sun shining into the window into the shower/tub
(looking in from vanity)

Wall paper in the "toilet room."
From far away it looks like a neat pattern...

...But up close, in true Vegas fashion it is a pattern
made from the silhouette of a woman!

The view from my balcony...full views to the left and to the right.
This just happened to be my favorite view!

Here are another cool pictures I snapped while I was walking around and exploring
Waiting for the show at the Bellagio!

Love this picture from the bottom of the Eiffel Tower (Vegas' version)

All in all it was a great trip...aside from enjoying being in Vegas...I was there for business. It was my first trade show, and was a great experience.

New Beginnings

So I have officially been in the Outer Banks with my new job for over 3 weeks. It has been tough going back and forth and only seeing D on the weekends, and trading off Dez.

Tomorrow D will start his new job as Art Director with The Beach Book! I am so proud of us & him for making what started out as a joke on the beach to live where we first met and have always loved. Now it is a reality. I can't wait to see what the future has to hold for both of us down here & with our new jobs.

Just wanted to give a shout out to D and wish him luck on his first day of his new job tomorrow.

Daring Dachshund

Hello! I decided I needed to give my mind a break at work and do a little blogging. I got home from my -week long business trip/personal vaca (will post later) just in time for the Cowboys v. Redskins game-GO COWBOYS!!!

After the game was over I STILL had to drive to the house and quickly unpack before bed...it turned out to be a LATE night.  Yikes.

I was going through my pictures today and saw some that I haven't posted about how crazy Dez is. Ever since she was about 7 weeks old she has been a sassy little thing.

The first time she met Sandy, my parents lab, she was not scared at all of her and her 100lbs vs Dezzie's 5lbs! She would bark back at Sandy, run at her, tease her-which was sad because Sandy wanted to play-just couldn't figure out how!

Now after spending all Spring and Summer together they have become quite comfortable (Sandy wasn't happy about Dez at first) and ended up being great friends. Now, they play by(see photos) Dezzie getting on the couch so they can be eye level to eachother. Then, Dezzie jumps on Sandy's back while Sandy "pretends" to put Dez's neck in her mouth. SO Funny!

Game Day

I know, I know...We are supposed to not like VT (The Pirates that is). I try to think that I have a free pass (only on game days we don't play them) since my sister, Kelsey, is a VT cheerleader.

Brrrr, I will tell you--it is football weather up there in Blacksburg! About 55 right now and a high of 63...hoping it doesn't rain up there for you guys! Not sure who Arkansas St. is, but they sound kinda wacky.

I just wanted to wish Kelsey & the Hokies a good luck for today....see you up there for the Clemson game!

We are the Pirates of ECU!

Better late than never I guess...but I just HAD to share my latest adventure!

Rachie1 and I traveled to our old stompin grounds back to ECU for the ECU/VT game. Yes, we all know-Hokies won...get over it...

Rach and I stayed at the luxurious "TraveLODGE", and had a blast! We re-kindled our love with some old friends, tried to keep up with the young guns, and sweat buckets at the game...nothing could be better than being back 'home'

Here are a few pics from the trip!
--Don't hate me for this--
Ladies and gentlemen...this is Dezzie's biggest fan
(and her interesting impression of a Dachshund)

For those of you who don't know...

Meet Dezzie!

Now that I have some more time, and my boss isn't stalking my computer activity I wanted to introduce to you the star of the show.

Here are some photos from 6 weeks old to present:

First Post!

Happy Friday!

I was sitting at work bored today and was looking through pictures of me and Dillon's wiener dog, Dezzie. Looking though the pictures I was remembering all the funny and stupid things our little doodle dog does from time to time. Thought that some of these things could make for a good story to share, and funny pictures to post.

Here's a picture of Dez posing with her bone. She's FINALLY getting used to her new home in Nags Head, NC--
there was a small struggle with this one getting acclimated--and the skeeters didn't help either!

I also thought to mix it up a bit so I don't seem like a single, white, female, dog lover, on a recliner, with a quilt, and a lifetime movie on the tube...I thought I would include some other stories to share-- Travel adventures...with my new job, and personal, a "3-things" post I'll do when the mood strikes (stolen from B), and anything else that comes up that would be fun to share.

Hope everyone enjoys the blog...I am new at this so bare with my work in progress! I'm excited!

Have a GREAT weekend...don't forget your sweatpants, fuzzy socks, and an umbrella though!
